The groove below the wine bottle, also known as "Punt", is the professional term for "arched bottom". Why are there grooves under the wine bottle? Some people say that the deeper the groove, the better the quality of the wine, while others say that the groove is to reduce the inherent space in the bottle, with the aim of filling a larger bottle with less wine? Actually, this is not the true intention of the groove. There are four main reasons for the design of grooves:
(1) With grooves, the structure of the wine bottle is stronger, which is conducive to a more stable placement of grape wine bottles.
(2) The grooves make the structure of the wine bottle more sturdy. Especially when filling sparkling wine, ordinary glass bottles are prone to explosion, and grooves can effectively avoid the possibility of bottle explosion.
(3) It is beneficial for the preservation of red wine, and grooves can now increase the convenience of serving wine.
(4) The groove can accumulate sediment inside the wine. This is crucial for wine farmers who did not yet have low-temperature crystallization technology in early wine production.
