Distillation: light rum
Light rum is the earliest style to appear in the 20th century. The usual fermentation time is 24 hours, and rum distilled using a column still has a much lighter taste than rum distilled using a pot still. White rum, also known as white rum, is generally light rum that has not been aged.
Distillation: heavy rum, pot distilled rum
Although rum was traditionally produced by pot distillation, only a few producers still use pot stills. Since the mid-20th century, pot style rum has been mainly used for blending, which can give rum a strong flavor and personality, especially British Navy style rum.
